Welcome to Vernon Square Preservation Society
We would like to thank everyone who turned up for our AGM at the Simeon Arms. We would also like to thank the Landlord of the Simeon Arms for the use of his function room and finally thanks to Malcom from Greener Energy Systems Ltd for a facinating talk about 'Saving the Planet'
Ryde's Vernon Square Garden just off Melville Street is a green oasis of Calm , in this beautiful Regency seaside town. The garden is bordered by a beautiful mix of Regency and Victorian houses dating from 1828, nine of which are listed. The square of land that the garden now sits was originally intended to have a lodge built on it, luckily for present day residents of Ryde this never happened.

The garden is a short walk from the junction of George Street and Melville Street, and is open to residents and holiday makers alike. The garden is available for hire for garden parties, photography assignments and art shows. The garden is now owned by the preservation society who maintain the garden with the help of donations and membership subscriptions.
Ryde has a surprise snow fall on th 6th April 2008 - this is such a rare event on the island that we took the opportunity to take some photographs of the garden whilst it was snowing. If you look in the gallery you will find a new album of the garden covered in a 2cm layer of snow.
