Welcome to Vernon Square Preservation Society
Ryde's Vernon Square Garden just off Melville Street is a green oasis of Calm, in this beautiful Regency seaside town. The garden is bordered by a beautiful mix of Regency and Victorian houses dating from 1828, nine of which are listed. The square of land that the garden now sits was originally intended to have a lodge built on it, luckily for present day residents of Ryde this never happened.

The garden is a short walk from the junction of George Street and Melville Street, and is open to residents and holiday makers alike. The garden is available for hire for garden parties, photography assignments and art shows. The garden is now owned by the preservation society who maintain the garden with the help of donations and membership subscriptions.
Ryde has a surprise snow fall on the 6th April 2008 - this is such a rare event on the island that we took the opportunity to take some photographs of the garden whilst it was snowing. If you look in the gallery you will find a new album of the garden covered in a 2cm layer of snow.
The Vernon Square Preservation lost two long term supporters and members of our committee this year.
Christine North who passed away earlier in the Summer. Christine was an inspiring member of the committee, who's hard work especially at Summer Parties and Ground Force garden cleanups will be sadly missed. We would like to thank everyone who made donations to the Society in Memory of Christine.
We also will miss Kevin Doran who passed away recently. Kevin, was one of our long term members who helped organise work groups for the garden via the community service scheme and helped obtain vital funding for the garden from various sources.
